X-Ways Forensics and WinHex 11.7 released
X-Ways Software Technology AG, maker of the reputable WinHex and X-Ways Forensics software tools, announced the release of WinHex 11.7 on Thursday. Known among forensic experts as a versatile tool both in automated file recovery and low level disk viewing, the forensic edition also features case management, gallery viewing and, of course, various hashing algorithms and other standard tools of the trade.
Beyond mere improvements to the already popular features like the discovery of file type and file extension mismatches, sorting of pictures by skin color percentage and other means to reduce investigation time, this release offers new and interesting features: Creation of disk backups not only in WinHex' format but also as raw image or compressible evidence files, all of which can optionally be split into segments of a user defined size and will be interpreted like original disks by WinHex and X-Ways Forensics.
Directly explore various archive file types like ZIP, RAR, TAR, GZ and others. The gallery view now also supports archives to allow the investigator to efficiently preview the contents of picture archives.
Apart from allowing to view the Windows Registry, X-Ways Forensics will now automatically report the values of Registry keys known to contain interesting information.
X-Ways Software Technology AG announced that X-Ways Forensics and WinHex 11.7 will be a free update to their respective registered users since V10.82.
